After the seeds have germinated and you move the seedlings under lights, what’s the optimal room temperature to keep them until they can be moved outside? And how about sweet peas sowed in pots in the fall, can they be overwintered in a cool environment like a non-heated basement?

Hi Darcy,
The 6″ dome should be just fine. Happy planting!

I am looking at some seed starting kits from a professional supplier but the kits come with (very nice) 6″ domes whereas if I spend more and buy the components separately, I can buy 2.5″ domes. You indicate having the grow lights just 2-3″ above the soil/ seed and you also mention removing the dome once they germinate- would it stand to reason that 6″ is too high of a dome? I see in the photos above what look to be 6″ domes so I wanted to clarify. Please and *thank you*!

I don’t have the room to start seeds indoors. But I would really like to use the landscape fabric for weed control.

What seed plate works best for sweetpeas? What plat do you use for zinnia? Any recommendation will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Your seedlings need light – a sunny south window will never do the trick as plants get way too leggy (called etiliation). Grow lights are the only way to go. Regular fluorescent shop lights on chains, kept a few inches above seedlings are cheap and work well. (You have to keep moving the lights upwards, hence the chains.) I think the lighting is covered in this post. Give it another read.
